Local Elections in England and Wales

This year's local elections seems to reflect the best Conservative performance since 1992 and the worst Labour performance since at least the late 1960's. Conservatives have managed to gobble up most of the votes across the country, taking Bury (from Labour), Nuneaton and Bedworth (also from Labour), Southampton (which we last controlled over 20 years ago in 1984), and Wyre Forest (last controlled in 1979). Conservatives ahve gained control of ten councils and elected 147 new councillors. In Wales Labour has been battered having lost three of its councils and sixteen councillors. It is said to be a mirror reflection of the 1995 elections ehere Labour dominated 45% and Conservatives 20%.Conservative leader David Cameron gave his first reaction earlier this morning telling reporters outside his London home it is a "big moment" and says it is a positive vote for the Conservatives rather than just an anti-Labour vote.
